Our Farm

The Floral Mixologist was founded on Fort Governor's Estate just outside Grahamstown/Makhanda in the Eastern Cape of South Africa in 2020 when the world went into lockdown. Jo decided to start on a small scale to work out what would grow well in her specific microclimate. Her goal was simple yet significant: to cultivate local and extraordinary cut flowers that would cater to the Eastern Cape market.

She aims to bring a touch of freshness and uniqueness to event planners, stylists, and florists who had been longing for these elusive blooms. Her motto was clear: Grown not Flown. Jo strives to provide the most exquisite, one-of-a-kind flowers to the Eastern Cape, offering a high-quality array of options for event planners and florists.

Additionally, she crafts beautiful bouquets for her local market, ensuring everyone can enjoy the beauty of these remarkable blooms.

Jo says "We have always been mindful of the growing practices used on the farm, from the amendments we add to the soil to the methods used to control unwanted pests. Not only for our flowers but also for our family, our farm, and the environment. It has always been one of our top priorities to grow alongside nature and not fight against it.

We are certain we are doing something right as the butterflies, birds and bees are always busy around us whilst sowing and harvesting. Using bio-control methods to suppress the baddies and feed the goodies, we have managed to maintain a well-balanced and thriving microcosm in our growing area."

Join her on this floral journey, and let her infuse your world with the magic of her locally grown, seasonal cut flowers.
